VINTAGE ROSE ETCHED VERMEIL STERLING SILVER MAKEUP COMPACT/MINAUDIERE (ITALIAN?)

Description

A stunning vintage rose flower etched sterling silver makeup compact/minaudiere, possibly made in Italy. Vermeil gold washed finish to exterior and interior. Contains three compartments (for lipstick and powder), a hinged clip, and a framed slot to the lid underside (intended to hold a mirror). Measures approx. .75"h x 5.75"l x 2.5"w, weighs approx. 348g/12.2oz. Displays general finish wear consistent with age/prior use, including light surface scratches and tarnish, mild gold wash fading, and a bit of makeup residue, it also appears to be missing the interior mirror and matching lipstick tube - see pictures. Additionally, the inner left compartment lid is a bit hard to open and close, and the case lid also sticks when closed, so it requires some force to open. Lid underside's mirror frame is faintly stamped "925" with an unidentified mark - this mark is in a lozenge cartouche resembling the shape used for Italian maker marks from 1934-1968, but it is too faint to confirm. A gorgeous sterling accessory!
