    Description

    For sale is a vintage Parker Pointer for John J. Gilligan, Ohio Governor.  The pointer has John J. Gilligan's name on it with "Ohio-so many ways to grow" printed in blue.  The pointer is made by Parker Pens, new and original box. Box number is 181.  Gilligan was a Ohio Democratic Governor from 1971 to 1975. He was a professor at Xavier University around 1948-1953. In 1964 he won election to United States House of Representatives, representing Ohio's first district. He served one term from 1965-1967 and lost reelection bid. He unsuccessfully ran for US Senate in 1968, and won election to the Ohio governor's office in 1970. While in office Gilligan implemented the state lottery system, and lowered the voting age to 18. Gilligan lost re-election in 1974 to former Governor James Rhodes. Gilligan served as director to US Agency for International Development from 1977-79, and he also taught at Notre Dame. In 1999 he served on the Cincinnati, Ohio School Board and his daughter serves as the Governor of Kansas. The pointer is 5 inches Long and will extend to a length of up to around 25.5 inches long.  I have 5 available, the price is for one.  the boxes have some light wear on the corners and edges and one has a slight crease on top.  Best boxes ship first.  A nice Parker collectable or political piece of history.
