VINTAGE 1950S WADSWORTH 8 BALL POWDER COMPACT NOVELTY FIGURAL COMPACT, Rare.
This is a Wadsworth vintage compact from the 1950’s. It has its original never used powder puff and its original never used screen with the silken handle to lift it up. The sifter is in excellent condition with no darkening or signs of use. Inside is a piece of vintage paper that says “inspected by 11”. Inside the compact there are no signs it has ever had powder or anything inside. The mirror shows vintage time wear from the 50’s. It is held in place tightly and looks slightly time worn. There is a tiny black light line that looks like a tree branch in the left side. There is no cracking. Please look at all pictures and ask questions before bidding. I will not attempt to clean the compact or mirror and will leave any patina to the new buyer to decide how to clean and care for it. The closure works very well and has a gold toned button to open and close it. It is a round black orb that resembles a pool ball number 8. It has a flat edge in the bottom so that it can sit up right and be displayed. The outside is shiny with a couple of tiny marks near the opening button is, and no dents or major wear. There are some light marks near the back hinge.
When this “shocking” compact was introduced in the 1950’s, it was an instant showpiece and must have for the ladies to display. Most compacts of the day were very feminine and colorful; but this one was a nod to “racy” women who wanted to display her strength of character and boldness! This is a very difficult to find compact in this excellent condition. This rarity is a treasure to display and cherish. I bought this compact with a lot of other vanity items in an auction in Hollywood, California. They were once used as props in older film and media. I do not know which film event this was used in. I will have other unusual vanities in upcoming auctions.
