Description
Here we have anAntique 'PATENT APPLIED FOR' Blacksmith Wheelwright Traveler Tool with Indicator Pointer by G. A. CLARK, NEWBURYPORT, MASS.
I could not find any info on a patent being issued for this traveler device.
This traveler tool is in great working condition, wheel turns freely. A ‘traveler’ was used by a blacksmith or a wheelwright to measure the circumference of the wagon wheel for the forging and mounting of the iron rim. This one has the typical 24 inches measured off in 1/8"increments on the edge of the steel wheel. There are additional measurements in concentric rings on this wheel. The wheel is also stamped with the info I listed above. The steel wheel has a brown painted finish and all the number and calibration are marked in gold. The pointer indicator moves freely. The wood handle is a folded steel type. There are No cracks, breaks or repairs.
This is a 'unique' version of a traveler that I have never seen before.
