Description
While General Ira Eaker is primarily remembered these days as an important WWII military leader  - he comanded U.S. Army Air Forces in the United Kingdom,  and later the Mediterranean Allied Air Forces,  his name became well known to American public much earlier.  A military pilot since 1918,  he took part in several well publicized record-setting flights through 1920s, including Pan-American Goodwill flight to  Central and South America (1926-7),  and the record-setting endurance flight of  the
Question Mark
(1929).   The latter flight had earned Eaker and his crew a Distinguished Flying Cross.   In 1930,  Eaker was again in the news, this time for trans-continental flights with in-air refueling.
The autographed cover being offered dates to this early period of Eaker's career.  In Nov. 1930, Eaker was feted at his hometown of Durant OK, where they named a new airport after their famous son.    The cacheted cover was also signed by the Durant mayor.
