This 2022 Rivian R1S Launch Edition is the SUV we’ve been waiting for! And the wait has been the hardest part: 3 years, 9 months and 8days from reservation date to delivery date. From the thoughtful features, to the premier build quality, everything about the R1S is outstanding. The ride is quiet and smooth. The acceleration, braking and cornering is unbelievable. With835hp from quad motors, the R1S has a 0-60 time of 3.0 seconds! And the optional Large Battery Pack that comes standard on the Launch Edition will give most people plenty of range for daily driving and makes road trips between charging stations a breeze.
Here are some of my favorite features and first impressions:
With the Rivian app installed on your phone, the truck can automatically unlock as you walk up to it. Once you arrive at your destination, simply put it in park, get out and walk away. The truck automatically locks the doors and turns itself off. If you want to loan the truck to a friend, simply send them an invitation through email from the app and they have access to the truck once they install the app and login. If that’s not easy enough, use the key fob, wrist band, or key card (the size of a credit card)!
The energy graph on the dashboard makes it super easy to understand the actual range available based on your recent driving habits. You can easily see when you’ve been using more or less than the rated energy usage.
The tires are surprisingly quiet. For tires that appear to be all-terrain tires, they are quiet and ride smoothly on both rough roads and highways. None of the ~100 miles on this truck have been off road, so I can’t comment on the off-road capabilities of the truck or tires. We did order this truck with the Reinforced Underbody Shield (a ,000 option) which will protect the battery from not only rocks and logs, but debris you may unintentionally run over at highway speeds.
USB charging ports and cigarette lighter power ports are everywhere. You should have no problem finding a place to plug in your gear!
Even the rear seats are comfortable for the 6’2” adults that went along for a ride.
The title to this truck has not arrived yet, but it has a temporary Illinois tag from Rivian. An Alabama title in the name of a corporation will be coming directly to us without any liens and we’ll forward it to the new owner as soon as it arrives. A 0 deposit is due within 24hours and will hold the truck for 7 days. If the balance is not paid in full by BANK WIRE TRANSFER within 7 days, the deposit will be forfeited and the truck will go back up for sale. A bill of sale will be provided to the new owner upon payment in full. If the truck is not picked up within 14 days, a /day storage fee will apply. We are happy to pick you up at the Huntsville International Airport (HSV), or work with a vehicle transport company that you arrange.
Our needs have changed since we placed the order almost 4years ago, so we’ve decided to let this truck go to someone who doesn’t necessarily want to wait that long. If you have questions, send them!
