BJ Motors is excited to offer this special 1998 Callaway C12, which is based on the C5 Chevrolet Corvette platform. This example is #11 of 25 examples produced and just 1 of 2 finished in Yellow as well as the only Yellow example equipped with a manual transmission. Introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in 1997, the Callaway C12 was designed in conjunction with IVM Engineering in Munich, Germany, and was a marriage of a bullet-proof American chassis with German engineering. The end goal? To win the GT2 Class at the 24 of Hours of Le Mans. And in 2001, the C12R took pole position in its class at the legendary race.
Using the new 5.7-liter LS1 engine, Callaway's engineers implemented various upgrades to maximize longevity and durability, as the race version would need to maintain pace for a full 24-hour race. These upgrades include a Callaway crank, forged connecting rods, lightweight forged aluminum pistons, and aluminum heads, which added up to 440HP. The carbon-kevlar body was designed by famed Callaway designer, Paul Deutschman, and was 5 inches wider than the standard Corvette. The 19x10.5" Azev Wheels are wrapped in 295/30ZR19 Pirelli Tires and the car was given a unique coilover suspension setup with adjustable dampening.
Interior wise, each car was unique due to the fact that each owner could customize it based on their liking. From all red, to all black, and a few others in between, each C12 interior is bespoke to the original owner's liking. This example sports a largely black interior with white accents throughout. Each car's interior is further enhanced with a slew of carbon upgrades, including a carbon center instrument panel bezel, console panel, radio bezel, shifter, and more. Below the AC controls are where each car's serialized plaque is proudly displayed. The interior also features Callaway-branded Konig sport seats, which are electronically adjustable and feature high-quality leather and stitching.
The C12 is such an important car and a fantastic story, as it was completed from concept to production in the 110 days leading up to the Geneva Auto Show. It was one of the first cars to be designed using computer science applications, which aided profusely in the completion of the project in such a short time, but also helped the car's designers push the most potential out of the car without sacrificing looks. Just 25 road-going examples were produced for a select group of buyers, including Ely Callaway and Dale Earnhardt Jr., and with only 5,140 miles traveled since new, this example presents a unique opportunity to own a historic piece of history. The car received a fresh oil change in May of 2021 as well as an AC Service.
