If you fancy driving something that looks like nothing else on the road yet is just barely an antique? Check out this Italian import, newly arrived at MotoeXotica Classic Cars; it’s only one of 17,619 examples made in 1994. Diagonal body accents and an industrial-looking interior help highlight Fiat’s Coupe, which has only recently become available in the United States. This example was imported from Germany to Texas in 2019.
Finished in a unique blue-purple metallic, the car’s paint and trim are in overall very good order, though a previous owner reports the car has undergone at least one repaint. There are blemishes on the nose and on the driver’s side door trim. The car’s bodywork is straight and solid, the engine bay is in very good order, the car’s body-colored bumpers blend well with the body lines and the cargo area in clean and looks good.
This car rolls on mixed radials, size 205/50R15 and 205/60R16 in back. Each tire is mounted on styled alloy wheels. The wheels are in overall very good order with some blemishes while the tires are in good, original condition.
Under the hood is a 2.0L 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine (code 836A3) with aftermarket intake and exhaust manifolds. Backing this motor is a five-speed manual transmission. Driver convenience features include power steering, power windows and power mirrors, rear window defrosters, rear window wiper and washer and a manually operated sunroof. There’s a driver’s side airbag.
Additionally, the Coupé featured independent suspension all round: at the front MacPherson struts and lower wishbones anchored to an auxiliary crossbeam, offset coil springs and anti-roll bar; at the rear, trailing arms mounted on an auxiliary subframe, coil springs and an anti-roll bar.
Inside, the black leather front buckets and rear seat are in overall great shape, as is the matching carpet and headliner. A three-spoke, leather steering wheel is in good order while the instrument panel and center console feature body-colored metal trim, unusual then and now. The dash and inner door panel are in very good order, as is the center console and shift lever. The interior is completed by a Pioneer AM/FM stereo with CD player.
Fiat Coupé, internally designated as the Type 175, was a two-door, four-seat coupé manufactured and marketed by Fiat between 1993 and 2000 across a single generation. The Coupé was introduced at Bologna Motor Show in December 1993 and is noted for its distinctive, angular exterior design by Chris Bangle – later noted for his work at BMW – at Centro Stile Fiat. Its interior was designed by Pininfarina.
On its launch in January 1994, the Coupé was available with a four-cylinder, 2.0 L 16V engine, in both turbo (190 PS) and normally aspirated (139 PS) versions. Both engines were later versions of Fiat's twin-cam design and inherited from the Lancia Delta Integrale, winner of the World Rally Championship a record six times. Along with the new engines Fiat also made some minor design changes including the front grill, steering wheel, the door panel now included leather, the interior center console was redesigned and the digital clock was replaced with an analog one.
This Fiat would surely be a head-turner at any cruise night and car show in North America, compared to many examples of domestically made classics. If you like your collection eclectic and unique, this model would fill the bill. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today to check out this Fiat for yourself.
