    Vehicle Details
    ACTUAL Vin # is: FX4-AT 9094 067
    ACTUAL YEAR IS 1989
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please ignore ebay's version of the vin number and the model name and model year! Ebay is not set up to allow European vin numbers and correct model year and designations on these listings! Frustrating, I know.
VINTAGE, OUTSTANDING 1989 LONDON TAXI WITH AUTHENTIC RIGHT-HAND DRIVE.
This is an exceptional London Taxicab, Built by Fairway, 1989 Model FX4. Also known as a Fairway Driver. It runs and drives extremely well. Everything works as it should. This features the original taxi meter, very hard to find, which works perfectly.
Cars like this don't come up for sale very often, and when I purchased it almost 20 years ago, I spent 2 years looking at many, many taxis before I finally found a vintage taxi in California in outstanding condition and with many authentic amenities.
The working taxi meter reads in British Pounds, and the yellow and blue "For Hire" light works as it should, (meaning that when the meter is activated with a fare, the for hire light goes off). The yellow lighted rooftop "Taxi" sign also works as it should.
All windows slide up and down as normal, doors open and close well, etc., etc. This car has both driver and passenger heat, the automatic door locking system, sliding glass window between driver and passengers, and also has the wheelchair ramp which is stowed in the trunk. All of which works well. Power steering and power brakes were standard. It does NOT have air conditioning. In the 1980's in London you just never saw a taxi with A/C.
Everything about this Cab is authentic and stock.
It has the 4-cylinder Nissan diesel engine and the 5-speed manual transmission. The Nissan diesel is the more desirable (and reliable!) engine in the FX4 line, over the previous Land Rover diesel. The car drives beautifully and gets excellent gas mileage. Always starts right up! Extremely dependable. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere.
It has newer tires, (about 1.5 years ago) and I had the taxi meter rebuilt/restored approximately 4 years ago.
Last year I had all brakes and wheel cylinders, lines, etc replaced. So the brake system is in top-notch condition and works well.
The upholstery is original and in very, very good condition, as you can see from the photos.
The driver's seat has normal wear, as would be expected, with a very small stress tear on the left side, but certainly repairable and overall in very good condition. As in stock condition, the compartment next to the driver is left as original, being the luggage area.
The passenger compartment upholstery is in very, very good condition with no damage, tears, etc. The passenger compartment comes with the standard rubberized floor covering which shows signs of some normal (but minimal) wear, but it is still in excellent condition and has a lot of life left on it.
All glass is in good condition with no damage other than minimal wear. No cracks, etc.
The 2 spring-loaded jump-seat style passenger seats in the passenger compartment are in excellent condition and work perfectly.
The body is in great shape, but this is a purpose-built car, so don't expect the fit and finish of a Rolls Royce. I have tried to include many photos to show how everything looks. I have always garaged this and kept it clean and waxed, so the paint is in very good condition.
This car has the authentic Right-Hand Drive and 5-speed manual shift!
It truly is a pleasure to drive. I have owned this for about 18 years, and it has always been garaged and professionally well-maintained. All in all, this car has been bullet-proof reliable and consistently a great driver.
You are buying this from the long-time actual owner, not a classic car re-seller.
This is an actual 1989 model, title is clear, car is legal, legitimate, and it is a real gem. The title states 1967, but that is not correct, it's a 1989. It was imported into the U.S. as a grey-market car, hence the inaccurate year on the title. If you need more information on this, just let me know.
At one time it was used to shuttle VIP guests around DisneyWorld Orlando, and it has also appeared in a few films.
The two fold-down jump seats in the passenger compartment work perfectly and even have the original advertisements from its days at work in London.
Seller is happy to assist with coordinating shipping, and you are of course welcome to come see the car in person if you are near northwest Georgia/northeast Alabama.
Of all the antique and classic cars I have had in my 65 years, this car has by far been the most fun and my favorite.
It has been the most reliable collectable car I have ever owned, and I've had the pleasure of owning many throughout my life. Why am I selling? I have enjoyed it for quite some time now, (about 18 years), but it's time to liquidate my car collection, and because this is my favorite, it's the last one to go.
Even though the odometer states 13,000 miles, obviously, as it's seen actual duty in London, it has gone 'round.
I will include all of the highly collectible literature that I have. I also have the extensive and quite comprehensive original (!) workshop manual and of course the original owner's manual. (Original, NOT reproduction)
The nice thing about this particular year taxi is it's new enough to be easy, modern and pleasurable to drive, but old enough to have the truly classic London Taxi design. A perfect balance. I've had many older cars, but they tend to be rather "primitive" to drive, and not so much fun to handle.
This car is a great driver! It will easily reach and maintain freeway/interstate speeds. Even with a full contingent of my friends in the back, it's still got ample power.
I have included the maximum amount of photos that Ebay allows, but if you'd like some more, just let me know! Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
If you'd like to come see it in person, I am happy to retrieve you from the closest airport, which is in Chattanooga, TN.
Airports in Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia are just 2 hours away.
Car may be for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early.
I am happy to help arrange shipping, if needed.
Thanks for your interest in my auction!
