  • Condition: My dad had to share ownership of this truck with a basset hound. When my dad or anyone mentioned “ole black truck” that basset hound would high-tail it down where the truck was parked thinking he was going for a ride. My brother made the mistake of stopping at the Dairy Queen once and bought the ole hound dog an ice cream cone….if by chance the truck went by the DQ and did not stop….ole hound would raise a heck of a ruckus, he loved riding in the “ole black truck” and stopping at the DQ in the city.

    Vehicle Details
This 1946 “ole black truck” has a very unique history. It was purchased approximately 300 miles from where the original owner lived. After the war, WWll, vehicles were near impossible to find and purchase, plus the OPA (Office of Price Association) controlled the price on most every commodity. New and used vehicles were no exception. The original owner paid an exorbitant price of ,000 over ceiling price for this vehicle. To say he wanted and needed such a vehicle was an understatement. The buyer owned a general store right on the Tennessee River, at the Kentucky, Tennessee state line. Sugar was a very in demand staple in this area, hence sugar was sold by the tons, a 3/4 ton truck was needed to haul sugar and supplies from the RR depot to his store, a distance of almost 30 miles. Oh yes, I should add that sugar is the main ingredient in moonshine.
Mr. Reed used this truck from 1946 til he retired in 1959.
My dad purchased this “ole black truck” from Mr. Reed in 1959 and used it in building a subdivision. My dad drove this vehicle as his personal vehicle, hauling equipment and supplies needed in building and developing a large subdivision.
I got out of the USAF and purchased this truck from my dad in 1970. I repainted it soon after I acquired it along with new tires and a few other upgraded equipment issues. I brought the truck to Texas in the early ‘70’s. I replaced the sideboards in 1974, did not replace the bed floor at that time. I drove this”ole black truck” to work and used it in my business until I sold the business in 2014. I took the truck apart and put it back in near new like condition, this took place from 2014-2016.
