This listing is for the original paper campaign ticket shown"1877 Democratic-Republican Campaign Ticket (Ward 5,) Daniel Marcy for Governor of New Hampshire," as well as Thomas Dinsmore for State Railroad Commissioner, and Alva W. Sulloway for Representative for Congress. Additionally, candidates for Councillor, Senator, Treasurer, Register, and Commissioner Rounsevel, Noyes, Wilson, Whittemore, Gregg.
This wonderful and novel "1877 Democratic-Republican Campaign Ticket" measures approx. 3.75" X 7.25", and is printed on light beige paper. At the top of the Ballot is a great illustration an "S" and a "W" intertwined together with flourishes.
Marcy did not win the governorship; Person C. Cheney, a Republican, was re-elected to Governor that year. Marcy had been a member of the State house of representatives several times between 1854 and 1872. He also served in the New Hampshire Senate in 1857 and 1858. He was again elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1863 - March 3, 1865). After leaving Congress, he again served in the New Hampshire Senate in 1871 and 1872. After his second bid for Governor in 1878, he did not serve as a public servant again.
Excellent original early family and/or town genealogy, history, antique, collectible heirloom and/or ephemera.
