Description

1871 New Hampshire Democratic Party Gubernatorial Campaign Ballot Ticket, for James. A. Weston. It also shows Alvah W. Sulloway for Railroad Commissioner, John S. Robinson for Councillor, William H. Grover for State Senator, and 3 other positions. It's entitled the "Democratic Republican Party, and shows a scene representing Agriculture and Industry, with the stylized shield of New Hampshire in the center. James A. Weston successfully won the governorship, and went on to win it a second time as well in 1874. This Democratic Republican Party Ticket" is in excellent condition with a little bit of wavering in the paper, but no soiling, no foxing, no wear to the corners or edges in front OR in back. The paper is bright in the front and the back, and the printing is clear and easy to read.

Rare and very attractive, "1874 New Hampshire Democratic Party Gubernatorial Campaign Ballot Ticket, for James. A. Weston."
Weston is shown as the nominee for Governor,  with Alvah W. Sulloway for Railroad Commissioner, Albert McKean for Councillor, George B. Chandler for State Senator and 7 other local positions.
This historical "1874 Democratic Party Gubernatorial Campaign Ticket" measures approx. 6-3/4" by 3-1/2" It is entitled the "Ward Six, Democratic Republican Party."  It has a very patriotic illustration at the top, with scenes of Industry and Agriculture.
James A. Weston successfully won the governorship … his second time to win it … once in 1871 and then again in 1874.
A bit of history about James A Weston:
At just nineteen years of age, he was appointed assistant civil engineer of the Concord Railroad.   He went on to work as civil engineer and banker.  In 1849, Weston was also performed the duties of road master and master of transportation of the Concord and the Manchester & Lawrence railroads. During his two terms as governor, Democratic judges were appointed and an important railroad merger was authorized.
This engaging and unique  "1874 New Hampshire Democratic Party Ticket" is in very good .  The corners are all a bit worn and dog-eared, and the paper is a bit crinkled.  There is a small (1/2") tear on the top edge, as well as a bit of soiling on the back.  Someone also wrote a tally on the back, presumably keeping track of the votes.   Please see the photos above.
